Music

Music shaped through listening

Danielle’s music begins with close attention—to an instrument, a voice, a physical gesture or a sound that might otherwise pass unnoticed. From this point, each work develops through curiosity, experimentation and a willingness to listen for what the material itself may reveal.

This collection brings together original compositions, songs and music created for children and education. Some works can be experienced here in full, while others will offer short listening previews with opportunities to download, purchase or explore their wider context as the collection develops.

Danielle is currently developing a new body of compositions, songs and music for young listeners, with recording planned across Northbridge, Fremantle and the Pickle District during October and November 2026. New work is anticipated to be shared toward the end of 2026.

Compositions

Original works in sound

Danielle’s compositions often begin with the particular voice of an instrument—its resonance, resistance, age, mechanics or imperfections. Acoustic material, voice and recorded sound are allowed to meet without being made overly smooth or resolved.

The works presented here invite attentive listening. Each carries its own internal world, shaped not only by melody and harmony, but by texture, breath, gesture, silence and the physical character of sound.

North

The raw—roar—strumming of the existing harp strings begins this piece and weaves throughout.

Representing the mad-ness of grief—madness in all forms—the piece explores distortion, anger, repression and suppression through veering harmonics, contorted voice, uneven phrase and altered pulse.

The seven pedals of the harp no longer influence the action of the strings; however, each has a unique “breath” when engaged.

The voice of each pedal has been recorded, interwoven with the others and braced by gong, distorted voice and audio manipulation of a range of bowls.

Further original compositions are currently being developed for recording, with new works anticipated toward the end of 2026.

Songs

Songs for voices, people and place

Danielle’s songs move between intimate expression and shared experience. Written for different voices, ages and settings, they bring language and music together with the same attentive approach found throughout her practice.

New songs are currently being written and prepared for recording, bringing together voice, melody and the stories that emerge through listening. The first recordings are anticipated toward the end of 2026.

Recordings, listening previews and further stories behind these works will be added as the collection develops.
